Kids’ Aquatics

The Fayetteville Athletic Club is proud to offer the highest level of swimming instruction available with our American Red Cross Water Safety instructors and experienced swim staff.  Our energetic swim staff have many years of experience teaching children of all ages and abilities. Our teaching philosophy centers on developing trusting relationships in a fun and safe environment so children may learn to love and respect the water. FAC aquatics emphasizes safety first and will build self-help skills and basic water safety in all swim levels.

Important:  The Pool Bubble will be erected Tuesday – Thursday, October 13-15, 2009.  During this time the pool will be closed.  We will re-open as regularly scheduled on Friday morning, Oct. 16, 2009.

Registration Procedure:
Registration begins in February for Swimmers in Motion learn-to-swim program and is on a first-come first serve basis. Payment must accompany registration in order to reserve a spot. Complete registration forms are located at the FACtory and main club front desk.

Cancellation Policy:
For a full refund, cancellation must be made one week prior to the start of class. Any cancellations made on the first day of class or after classes have begun will not receive a refund.
Sharks Swim Team swimmers can begin at any time during the season, but must notify FAC in writing 30 days in advance when you want to withdraw from swim team. Classes are held on July 4th.

Inclement Weather Policy and Make-ups:
In the event of inclement weather, lessons will be canceled 30 minutes prior to each class. You must call the club (479.587.0500) to learn whether your lesson has been canceled due to inclement weather. Make-up lessons for weather for Summer Session Swimmers in Motion will be given on Tuesdays beginning at 8:00 a.m.

How to Register

1. Read level descriptions and determine your child’s level.
2. Select first and second choices to assure a spot, as registration is on a first-come-first-serve basis.
3. Complete the registration form and return it with payment to the FAC front desk.
4. You will receive an email confirming the session dates and times your child is registered for.   

Swimmers in Motion

Swimmers in Motion is our summer learn to swim program. It offers 6 different levels of swimming instruction from June-August. Levels are based on your child’s prior swim experience, abilities and age. We will assess your child during their first swim lesson to determine appropriate swim level placement. Group swim lessons begin at age three.

Diaper Dolphins                                           
Ages 9 months - 1 year
Our Parent/Child class is designed to introduce children to water safety, enhance their comfort level in the water, and introduce buoyancy and pre-swimming skills.

Diaper Dolphins II                                       
Ages 12 months-3 years
DD II is a parent/child class for children who have participated in Diaper Dolphin I and are comfortable in the water but are not yet ready to move on to Sandcrabs due to age or ability. DD II will emphasize self-help and safety skills as well buoyancy and pre-swimming skills.

Sandcrabs (level 1)                                       
Ages 3-4
This class is designed for beginner level swimmers and children who have limited experience and comfort levels in the water. Goal: increase comfort level, learn the basics of buoyancy, breath control and safety skills.

Jellyfish (level 2)                                           
Ages 4-6
This class is for swimmers who are fairly comfortable in the water, are able to submerge their faces, and are comfortable on their backs. Goal: Demonstrate unassisted front and back float, rhythmic breathing, kicking and basic arm strokes. Learn basic safety skills.

Sea Turtles (level 3)                                      
Ages 6-8
This class is appropriate for children who have completed level 2 and can swim unassisted, yet need to develop proper stroke and breathing techniques. Goal: Demonstrate the front crawl, elementary backstroke and back crawl strokes for 10 yards. Also learn safety skills.

Blue Marlins (level 4)                                   
Ages 8-12
This class is perfect for children who have mastered level 3. Goal: Increase endurance in front and back crawl strokes; learn the basics of breast and sidestrokes and be able to swim 25 yards of each stroke.

Sharks (level 5) Red Cross Class    
Ages 8 - 12
The class is for children who can swim unassisted but need stroke refinement. Swimmers should be able to swim front crawl with rhythmic breathing, backstroke, breaststroke, side stroke, and butterfly. Swimmers will work on building their endurance and learn components of the butterfly stroke, flip turns and water safety.

Private or Semi-Private Lessons can be arranged to fit your schedule seven days a week. The package includes four 30-minute lessons.

Private Lessons:
$75 for members, $95 for non-members

Semi-Private Lessons:
$95 for members, $110 for non-members (2 or more)

FACtory Swim Fit Club

Our Swim Fit Club offers after-school group swim lessons from August-May. Three different swim levels are available based on age and ability. Please indicate swim level on registration form. If you need assistance determining the appropriate swim level for your child, swim assessments will occur during your child’s first swim lesson.

Aqua Jets (level 1)                                
Ages 5 - 6
This class is designed for the beginner swimmer and will focus on buoyancy, bubble blowing, prone positioning, kicking, introduction to basic swimming strokes, and safety skills.

Wind Surfers (level 2)                                      
Ages 6 - 7
This class is for children who have limited swim skills, who may not swim with their faces down, or may only be able to swim underwater. We will focus on basic swim skills, safety skills, rhythmic breathing, kicking and basic arm strokes.

Wave Riders (level 3)                                       
Ages 7 - 12
Designed for advanced swimmers who can swim unassisted, this class focuses on stroke techniques, free style, back stroke, breast stroke, side stroke and basic safety skills.

Sharks Swim Team

Ages 4 - 14

The FAC Sharks Swim Team is a developmental swim team that swims year round. Our program goals are for children to develop a sense of accomplishment and self-confidence by mastering swimming skills in an encouraging, positive and motivating environment. Practices will comprise dry land exercises, swim technique and endurance training, and fun water games. The Sharks Swim Team is a great way to enhance stroke technique and efficiency, prepare for future competitive swimming and triathlons, and be fit and have fun. Intersquad swim meets will be held to foster friendly competition and monitor development.

Swimmers will need tennis shoes, goggles and swim caps (girls) for all practices. Goggles and caps are available for purchase at FAC.

To facilitate practices, the team is broken into 5 groups according to skill level, with the Great Whites being the most advanced swimmers. Practices will occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays a.m., Wednesday p.m., and Saturday a.m. (There are no make up practices offered for missed practices for swim team).

Nurse Sharks (ages 3 -5)
Sand Sharks (ages 5 - 7)
Hammerhead Sharks (ages 7 - 8)
Tiger Sharks (ages 8 - 10)
Great Whites (ages 9 +)

Note: Nurse Shark lessons are offered during fall and winter season only and are not offered on Saturdays. The Nurse Shark team is for children who can swim unassisted 10 yards and/or who want to work on accomplishing 25 yards to advance to the Sand Sharks.
