Oxygen facials have become increasingly popular over the years, particularly with the rise in celebrities endorsing the technique. People love this gentle, non-invasive technique to combat the visible signs of aging.

So what can you expect during your first Oxygen Facial?

When you first lay down for your facial, your aesthetician will cleanse your skin of any dirt and oils. This allows the serum and oxygen to penetrate deep into your pores.

The actual procedure consists of an airbrush-gun-like wand that emits a continuous flow of 90 to 95 percent pure oxygen under hyperbaric pressure (compared to the 18 to 21 percent naturally in our environment). This is said to enhance the absorption of the serums so you get more benefit from the ingredients. Oxygen is also naturally antibacterial and has a cooling, calming effect.

The infusing feels like a blast of cold air on the skin, with a slight pressure but nothing painful or uncomfortable. Once your aesthetician slowly makes their way around your entire face with the wand, they’ll apply a topical serum and/or cream on top.

The Benefits of Choosing an Oxygen Facial

    • Oxygen facials have a quick recovery time. Patients can almost immediately apply makeup or lotion to their face, as opposed to most facials, where they must wait several hours.

    • As opposed to other types of skin treatments, such as microdermabrasion, oxygen facials leave no painful side effects, such as itching, stinging, or burning. The procedure itself is gentle, and those with sensitive skin, or aversion to needles, are able to undergo this procedure with no problems.

    • Some of the benefits of the facial are instantly noticeable, with patients reporting glowing, younger looking skin, and those suffering from acne and other skin issues have reported a clearing up of these issues after a short time.

    • Regardless of physical benefits, the infusion of oxygen and vitamins to any part of the body is healthy, and they promote cell growth, as well as collagen growth. It also gives skin that’s been exposed to pollutants such as tobacco smoke and dirty air a bit of a cleanse.

If you find facials and other methods of beautifying the face to be too abrasive, or just want to try something new to see if it works, then the oxygen facial may be perfect for you!

  • Massages for Workout Recovery

    In Spa | on July 8, 2016

After your next intense workout think about treating yourself (and your muscles) to a massage at FAC’s Retreat Spa. Massage has long been used to recover from intense exercise. There are several benefits to receiving a post-workout massage. Massages improve performance, reduce pain, prevent injury, encourage focus and shorten recovery time.

Still not sold on the idea? Check out these benefits of post-workout massages:

    Improve Flexibility

When you work out, your muscles become tightly constricted, packing on a lot of tension. A post workout massage helps your muscles release this tension and helps them get back to their normal state. This can lead to improved flexibility.

    Muscle Recovery

Receiving a body massage right after your workout can also help your muscles in the recovery process. A massage improves the circulation of fluids in your body. When your bodily fluids are circulating efficiently, nutrients and oxygen are able to reach your muscles and other tissues better. More oxygen is also delivered to your blood stream, helping you to exercise better.

    Pain Relief

Constantly tight muscles can eventually lead to pain in different parts of your body. For instance, if your glutes, quads and hamstrings are always tight then chances are you will develop sore hips and knees. This soreness and pain can increase overtime and can even lead to serious injury. A post workout body massage can help you prevent pain and injury by decreasing the soreness of your muscles after your workout.

    Increase Range of Motion

When your muscles are in their normal and relaxed state, your joints are also able to perform in their normal range of motion. However, when your muscles tighten from exercise, this range in motion becomes lessened. Stretching or receiving a post workout body massage can be beneficial because they help unlock your muscles so your original range of motion is restored. This is important if you want to perform your exercises more efficiently.

Treat yourself to a massage today! For more information contact the spa front desk at 479.695.1634.

  • The Perks of a Spray Tan

    In Spa | on May 31, 2016

Summer is officially here. Does the thought of your pale skin in a swimsuit make you cringe? We all enjoy the look of a nice glow during the summer months (even year round!) but tanning beds and UV sun exposure can be very harmful. As we are all aware, skin that is overexposed to the sun or UV is far more prone to sunburn, skin conditions, premature ageing and of course, skin cancer.

With spray tanning at FAC’s Retreat Spa you can attain a natural-looking glow the safe and healthy way, free from the dangers of UV sun exposure.

The benefits of spray tanning also extend into the psychological arena. Let’s be honest – we all feel better when we have a tan. Who isn’t happier sporting a healthy looking radiance, than pale, pasty skin? As they say, look good, feel good!

The beauty of spray tanning doesn’t stop there, either. Spray tanning offers a long list of other benefits, including:

    • An even, streak-free tan – the fine mist allows an even application all over, with no patchiness
    • The ability to stay tanned year round, helping you to look thinner and healthier instantly, boosting self confidence
    • Evening skin tone and hiding blemishes and imperfections, including stretch marks and varicose veins
    • Choice as to the depth of the color you want in your tan
    • It’s fast – in only 15 minutes you can go from being pale and white to having a deep bronzed tan

Spray tanning is quick, easy and most importantly safe. If you have an event coming up or would just like to have a glow this summer book an appointment with the Retreat Spa at FAC today! If you are a first time spray tanner please contact the spa to get some tips on how to prep your skin. It’s a good rule of thumb to make sure you don’t’ get wet for 6-8 hours after your tan, so plan accordingly.

The benefits of massage can improve overall prenatal health for many pregnant women. Along with the guidance and advice of a prenatal care provider, massage therapy can be incorporated into routine prenatal care as an emotional and physical health supplement that has shown to improve pregnancy outcome and maternal health.

Some of the key benefits to prenatal massage are:

    Regulation of Hormones

Getting regular massages can reduce hormones associated with stress such as norepinephrine and cortisol, and increase levels of dopamine and serotonin. These changes often lead to fewer complications during birth and fewer instances of newborn complications.

    Swelling Reduction

Swelling of the joints during pregnancy, is often caused by reduced circulation and increased pressure on the major blood vessels. Massage helps to stimulate soft tissues and promote blood flow.

    Improving Nerve Pain

Many women experience sciatic nerve pain in late pregnancy as the uterus rests on muscles in the lower back. Massage therapy addresses the inflamed nerves by helping to release the tension on nearby muscles. Many women have experienced a significant reduction in sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy through massage.

FAC offers a customized Maternity Massages that can help release the tension and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. Choose between 60 and 90-minute sessions of relaxation. To book your next massage, contact the spa front desk at 479.695.1634!

  • The Best Facial for your Skin Type

    In Spa | on February 26, 2016

Achieving glowing, gorgeous skin can be difficult to master. There are a number of factors to consider, most importantly skin type. Every skin type has specific needs that should not only be taken into consideration when buying a cleanser or moisturizer, but also when getting a facial. Spa treatments are a great way to give your skin a boost, but with so many types of facials to choose from, what will benefit your skin most?

Below we’ve listed the best treatments for your skin type.

    Dry Skin

Dry skin needs many different treatments. Dry skin lacks natural oils, making it prone to dehydration. Due to this lack of water, the skin’s natural exfoliating cycle slows down. Facials that include gentle exfoliation great way to take your skin from flakey to fabulous. Dry skin also needs both oil and water to balance it out, so consider facials that include masks, which will help penetrate product into the skin.

    Oily Skin

Oily skin produces more oil than it needs. This oil is a magnet for debris, such as skin cells, makeup and pollution, which can cause congestion inside the pores. Over time, the congestion becomes hardened, and is difficult to remove from cleansing alone. Look for facials that include a chemical exfoliant (glycolic acid or salicylic acid). This will penetrate into the pores and loosen congestion. Oily skin also needs extractions to remove any hardened debris within the pores (goodbye, blackheads!) But don’t try this at home. Extractions are something your aesthetician is trained to do safely as part of your facial.

    Combination Skin

Combination skin, has both oily and dry areas, so these areas need to be treated separately. Enzyme, chemical and microdermabrasion exfoliants work very well. Extractions are also needed (usually in the T-zone) to remove congestion, and a professional treatment mask will help to replenish lost water and soothe the skin.

FAC offers a variety of facials that address many common skin issues. Whether you have oily, dry, or combination skin, we will have a solution for you. Call today to make an appointment and discuss your options! (479) 695-1634
