Oxygen facials have become increasingly popular over the years, particularly with the rise in celebrities endorsing the technique. People love this gentle, non-invasive technique to combat the visible signs of aging.
So what can you expect during your first Oxygen Facial?
When you first lay down for your facial, your aesthetician will cleanse your skin of any dirt and oils. This allows the serum and oxygen to penetrate deep into your pores.
The actual procedure consists of an airbrush-gun-like wand that emits a continuous flow of 90 to 95 percent pure oxygen under hyperbaric pressure (compared to the 18 to 21 percent naturally in our environment). This is said to enhance the absorption of the serums so you get more benefit from the ingredients. Oxygen is also naturally antibacterial and has a cooling, calming effect.
The infusing feels like a blast of cold air on the skin, with a slight pressure but nothing painful or uncomfortable. Once your aesthetician slowly makes their way around your entire face with the wand, they’ll apply a topical serum and/or cream on top.

Achieving glowing, gorgeous skin can be difficult to master. There are a number of factors to consider, most importantly skin type. Every skin type has specific needs that should not only be taken into consideration when buying a cleanser or moisturizer, but also when getting a facial. Spa treatments are a great way to give your skin a boost, but with so many types of facials to choose from, what will benefit your skin most?
Below we’ve listed the best treatments for your skin type.
Dry skin needs many different treatments. Dry skin lacks natural oils, making it prone to dehydration. Due to this lack of water, the skin’s natural exfoliating cycle slows down. Facials that include gentle exfoliation great way to take your skin from flakey to fabulous. Dry skin also needs both oil and water to balance it out, so consider facials that include masks, which will help penetrate product into the skin.
Oily skin produces more oil than it needs. This oil is a magnet for debris, such as skin cells, makeup and pollution, which can cause congestion inside the pores. Over time, the congestion becomes hardened, and is difficult to remove from cleansing alone. Look for facials that include a chemical exfoliant (glycolic acid or salicylic acid). This will penetrate into the pores and loosen congestion. Oily skin also needs extractions to remove any hardened debris within the pores (goodbye, blackheads!) But don’t try this at home. Extractions are something your aesthetician is trained to do safely as part of your facial.
Combination skin, has both oily and dry areas, so these areas need to be treated separately. Enzyme, chemical and microdermabrasion exfoliants work very well. Extractions are also needed (usually in the T-zone) to remove congestion, and a professional treatment mask will help to replenish lost water and soothe the skin.
